About the Project

About The Project

The history of Newcastle told by the people who lived it.

Musician, historian, director and TV personality Chit Chat von Loopin Stab along with Tony Whittaker of Carnivore Films are currently producing twelve films. Each film provides a unique look at Newcastle and available to the public on the Stories of Our Town YouTube channel. The films are free to view and share.

Our approach

Deadset truth

These are not dry retellings of familiar tales. They are the stories you don’t know. The ones that make you smile, laugh out loud, shock you, make your toes curl, bring a tear to your eye, but mostly fill you with pride to call yourself a Novacastrian.

The project is already partnering with Newcastle Museum, Newcastle Library, NCC, Facebook Page Lost Newcastle, NBN, ABC Newcastle, Real Film Festivals and the Newcastle Herald to fully realise our amazing history in a visual format.

Testimonials

Professor Catharine Coleborne

Head of School of Humanities and Social Science
“We are thrilled to see this success for our University library staff involved with this project about storytelling. It shows that stories are at the heart of who we are – our histories and experiences – and provide points of connection between different parts of our wider community”

Gionni Di Gravio, OAM

University Archivist & Chair, Hunter Living Histories
"By making films freely available this allows this resource to be used as an educational tool by schools and tertiary institutions, as well as a promotional resource for attracting visitors, and generally broadens knowledge about culture and history of Newcastle. The availability of the films at the Newcastle Museum and Library enables our stories about Newcastle to be shown to a much larger audience"

Julie Baird

Director, Newcastle Museum
"It puts a human face on that massive story" .
